Plateau: PDP receives decampees in Kanam LGA

No fewer than 2,000 decampees from different political parties were received by the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, in Kanam Local Government of Plateau State on Monday.
The decampees were received by the Plateau PDP Chairman, Chief Damishi Sango, during the
commissioning of Kanam PDP office, inauguration of chairmanship campaign committee and appeal
fund raising in Dengi.
Receiving the decampees, Sango, represented by the Vice Chairman, Plateau Central Zone, Mr. Benedict
Shiknughul, commended them for taking what he called “the right decision’’ in their political race.
“Today, we welcome you into the PDP with open arms. We shall accord you the privileges therein for all
members of the PDP on the Plateau; ensure that you are fully registered in your own wards in order to
participate in all our programmes, ’’ the chairman admonished them.
Sango charged them to go straight to work and begin to campaign for PDP’s victory in all elective
positions from the ward to national level come 2019.
Responding, Mr. Yahaya Angwan-Gero, Spokesman of the decampees, said “we are here to stay and
work for its victory toward wrestling power from the APC in 2019.
“Some of us are asking for forgiveness for leaving the party and to give us the opportunity once again to
prove our loyalty and commitment, ’’Angwan-Gero pleaded.
According to him, “we are down to earth returnees, who are ready to work tirelessly for the party’s
victory in the 2019 general elections.’’
Earlier, the Kanam LG Chairman, Aliyu Ali, admonished all aspirants to ensure that they don’t allow their
personal interest to override that of the party or the state.
Dr Edwin Rinkwat decried the division in the polity along ethnic, religious and cultural differences.
Rinkwat argued that until politicians have a change of heart, the polity would be polarized and
jeopardize the growth and development of the country.
He admonished all aspirants to be courageous enough to display the spirit of sportsmanship by
remaining in the party peradventure they do not get the ticket to fly the flag of the party as candidates
in the office they are aspiring for.
“We should stick together no matter what and build the party and stir it to victory in the 2019 polls, ’’
Rinkwat pleaded.
However, the Sadat Gargak-led Chairmanship Campaign Committee was inaugurated by the state party
chairman with a charge on members to be neutral, committed and dogged in executing their
