Pro-democracy group moves to tackle poverty, ignorance in Bayelsa

Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, under the auspices of Campaign for Development and Democracy in Bayelsa, CDDB, has launched a movement to create awareness on abject poverty and ignorance.
A statement by the Executive Director, CDDB, Dr.EkiyorWelson, said the campaign tagged: “Bayelsa Orange Movement”, is aimed at bringing to an end the menace of social evils such as slavery and intemperance in the state.
Welson explained that the campaign is named after the foremost Methodist missionary, Orange Scott, who was an earnest anti-slavery worker and was committed in his fight to bring to an end some social evils in the society during his days.
“The campaign is intended to mobilize all Bayelsans towards development and democracy for prosperity, we are connected to Orange Scott, we have come to recognize the same sense of duty to call the attention of our people to the wrongs and outrages suffered by the least disadvantaged in our midst.”
The group said they are out to help disadvantaged students, women, retirees, unemployed and vulnerable persons in the state.
They explained that it is only through righteous leadership that the problem of the state and society can be addressed, while soliciting the support of the people to the progenitor of the movement, Mr. Reuben Okoya, to ensure a better society.
