Nigerian football veteran Daniel Amokachi has been in the news in the past few hours after he took to social media to brag about his daughter Raya Iman Amokachi over her impressive football performance.

The proud father stressed that his daughter took her football genes from him; he, however, didn’t reveal the football club she’s playing for.

Apart from Raya, who is Amokachi’s third child, the football veteran twin sons, Nazim and Kalim, are professional footballers in the Nigerian Professional Football League side and currently play Kwara United of Illorin after they left Turkish Giants Besiktas last year.

Daniel Amokachi’s biography

His full name is Daniel Owefin Amokachi, and he was born on the 30th of December 1972 in Kaduna state. His father Mr Ikwulechin Amokachi, hailed from Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

There are no details on Amoka’s siblings, but he is a Nigerian by birth and will celebrate his 49tth birthday in December 2021.


Amokachi had his childhood in Kaduna state when he had his primary and secondary school education in the city.


Daniel Amokachi, also known as The Bull, started his football career in Kaduna, where he joined the Ranchers Bees FC as a teenager.

It was during his time with the Ranchers that he was discovered by Nigerian national team coach Clemens Westerhof, who registered in the national team to play in the 1990 African Nations Cup.

After a successful outing in the AFCON, Amokachi went international as he joined Club Brugge in Belgium and played in the Champions League, thus becoming the first player to score in the competition in a 1–0 win match in the group stage against CSKA Moscow.

Amokachi’s performance in Belgium and the National Team in the 1994 World Cup saw EPL side Everton sign him under manager Mike Walker for a transfer fee of £3 million.

The football veteran went on to play for Besiktas, Colorado Rapids and Nasarawa United before his retirement from football.

Through out his career, Daniel Amokachi made 44 appearances for the Nigerian Super Eagles scoring 13goals while at the club level he made 201 appearances with 64 goals to his name.

Amokachi was a striker popular for his speed, technique and physical strength, which got him the nickname “Black Bull” and “Black Train”. 

However, since 2006 Daniel Amokachi has been a sports technical director; he started with Nasarawa United and has served as an assistant coach to the national team.

Personal life

Daniel Amokachi is married to Nadia Amokachi, a Tunisian woman; according to the records, they married in 1995 and have three children together; twin sons named Kalim and Nazim, and a daughter named Raya.
