Ibrahim Suleiman interview with pulse tv

Ibrahim Onimisi Sulaiman was granted an interview with pulse TV and here’s what he has to say about himself:

Can you introduce yourself to us?

My name is Ibrahim Suleiman, was born in the year 80s. I studied architecture at Ahmad Belu University in Zaria. I worked for several years before deciding to practice dancing professionally.

I’ve been dancing for 11 years. I am a choreographer, writer and dancer. I’m also interested in graphics. I have a great talent for finding things to do.

What is your experience so far?

I don’t turn back when things aren’t working as expected, I just keep calm and continue in what I can do to make things better. I know God is the one ordering my steps.

I don’t do things myself and I’m lucky that I can continue to dance now. I became a professional in 2008 and it worked out better than most people expected.

Do you have a formal education in choreography?

Ibrahim Suleiman: Basically, this is hip-hop, but I did not have a formal education, because there was no dance school created that would suit my style, a combination of different styles. So I think that when you create your own style in this industry, it thrives.

Who introduced you to or influenced you into choreography?

I have passion for adventure. So, I don’t want to wake up at 35 and regret that I didn’t do what i should have done.

Inspired by Michael Jackson’s performance at the 1995 MTV Awards, I watched it over and over again and a lot of images flashed through my head, but I didn’t start dancing until my second year of college.

My friends formed a secret dance team and I had to replace friends who found it difficult to practice. When he didn’t last two days on the show, I filled it out and it was a good experience.

So it all came together and my Soul Quest dance team won the 1st National Guinness Street Dance Championship in Malta in 2008.

We are from the Youth for Purpose (YWAP) religious organization. I was a little hesitant to participate in the competition, but when I prayed, God followed me.

Do you face any challenge as a Choreographer?

Ibrahim Sulaiman: Art should be respected. Many dancers do not realize that they have unique abilities. People don’t take their art seriously because dancers don’t appreciate their art.

Another thing is that people do not attach any financial value to this, because this is not an established industry. I feel like I am helping dancers, but art, like music, is constantly evolving.

This is because many people have come together to make music in one organization. People see the present, not the future. The world is crazy about music, and everyone has their own rhythm, so dancing can become explosive.

What is the use of dancing? I think it’s great to see the audience scream and play like crazy, but there is a part that basically conveys the idea of my work. I act because people expect certain standards, but I am happy when I dance and people understand the meaning of my work.

How lucrative is choreography?

Ibrahim Sulaiman: Like in everything, there is a food chain. Spirit of David’s Wale, Kaffy and other choreographers are mostly at the top of the food chain, and we move on to the rest. Freelancers, people with teams, people who are not paid to dance. So it depends on where you are on the stairs.

What are your plans for the future?

I think to return to architecture. I have mentors and I am now in the best financial and moral position, so I can start my own business.

Therefore, I plan to return to architecture in a few years. I have always liked architecture, in which one room goes into another. It’s not just about construction. It’s about cumulative experience.

Family, Parents and Siblings

Ibrahim Suleiman was born into a humble family. He grew up with his parents in the north, although there isn’t a lot of information about his father, mother and siblings.
