Infrastructure vandalism, forex scarcity, others plaguing telecoms operators – ALTON

The Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria has said infrastructure vandalism, lack of seamless access to foreign exchange, right of way issues, as well as multiple taxations and regulations are serious issues plaguing operators in the telecommunication industry.

The Chairman, ALTON, Gbenga Adebayo, disclosed this at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s 2021 board and management retreat, according to a statement.

According to him, stakeholders need to forge greater alliance and collaboration to tackle the challenges and spur the strategic partnerships needed to enhance both the consolidation of the gains and the plan for harnessing rapidly-emerging innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which Nigeria requires to launch fully into the global digital age.

The Chairman, NCC Board of Commissioners, Prof. Adeolu Akande, said the retreat was an avenue to assess the industries achievements and challenges, allow for brainstorming and help chart the most effective and efficient way forward.

He described the sector as a major employer of labour, with a catalytic effect on employment, establishment of small and medium-scale enterprises.
