At Yinka Odumakin burial. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was today 24th April, 2021 at the  funeral service of the late Afenifere Spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, represented by Mr Sooko Kemade Elugbade.

The burial which took place at Origbo Anglican Grammar School, Moro, in Ife North Local Government Area was witnessed by prominent Nigerians who come to pay their last respect for the late Afenifere Spokesperson.

  • Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State
  • Pa Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere

  • Ibà Gani Adams, Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland

While at the the funeral, Oni of Ife, through Mr Kemade Elugbade, described Yinka Odumakin as a patriotic son of Oduduwa that cannot be forgotten. He also described him as one who will always be remembered for his positive impact on Nigeria’s democracy.

The Ooni noted that while others may choose to morn Yinka Odumakin’s death, the throne of Oduduwa has chosen to bless his memory.

According to the Ooni of Ife

“Yinka Odumakin’s death was a rude shock when Yoruba nation in particular and Nigeria at large needed him.

“The news of his demise was a very bitter pill to swallow for the entire country and to us particularly in the House of Oduduwa.

“He was a disciplined Yoruba leader who has been one of the loudest pro-democracy voices in the country.”

A short video clip of Yinka Odumakin together with his wife at a television interview was played in remembrance of and respect for him.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, also named Ife-Moro road after Yinka Odumakin to make his memory more in the heart of the people he served.
